What Lessons Are Like
at Spark of Discovery Piano

Lessons are built around the student’s goals. Whether it’s your first trial lesson or we’ve been working together for years, I design each lesson to support what you want to improve: confidence, reading, technique, expression, etc.

There’s no one-size-fits-all lesson, but most follow a similar rhythm:

  • Warm-up for hands and mind
This might include sight-reading, ear training, or revisiting a concept from the previous week

  • Focused work on a main piece
We rarely start at the beginning and play straight through. Instead, we look for patterns, identify what’s difficult (and why), and work strategically

  • Learning how to practice
Much of the lesson models an effective practice session: where to slow down, what to listen for, how to break a problem into something manageable, and how to experiment instead of just repeating

  • Creative reinforcement
Depending on the student, this could include a game, improvisation, composition, or even switching roles and having the student “teach” me, all to build confidence and ownership

Lessons are planned in advance but I always leave room to respond to curiosity, questions, or challenges that came up during the week.

A good lesson means the student leaves knowing exactly what to work on and feeling motivated to practice.

Practice matters, but it doesn’t need to be rigid or time-heavy. I care more about curiosity and consistency than hitting a specific number of minutes. Slower, intentional practice always leads to better results.

Progress is measured against yourself, not anyone else. I’ll help you decide what matters most right now and make your goals feel clear and realistic.

Trial Lesson

A trial lesson is a chance to meet, talk about goals, and experience what a lesson is like together. There’s no pressure or long-term commitment. It's just a chance to see if we’re a good fit.

  • Trial lessons are offered at $70 for 30min.

A few notes

  • A working piano or keyboard is required for lessons and for home practice.

  • Consistent weekly scheduling is encouraged, as regular lessons lead to the most progress.

  • Practice expectations are discussed individually and tailored to each student’s schedule and goals.

Not sure which option is best for you? We can talk it through during an intro call.
